It won’t be wrong to say that I am the most confused individual on this planet. Why? Because it’s been months since I graduated high school and I’m still unsure what to do with my life. Even though I have always enjoyed studying technical subjects (i.e., the ones that include a lot of science and have a lot of research-potential), BUT it’s unfortunate that I (almost) always score low in these subjects. But there’s something inside of me that tells me every now and again, “Aadil, DO NOT waste your life taking up a major that won’t let you utilize your brain’s true potential.” And that’s when I tell myself that I am going to be an engineer.
Yes, if I were born in 70s, Burj Khalifa's design would have been much classier.
BUT (apologies if there are too many BUTs in this blog post) having already failed an engineering university’s entrance test (and not applying for any other universities), I see myself letting an year go to waste and applying for engineering universities again next year, which is actually a very good plan since I don’t care if it’s the matter of only one year.
BUT it has always been my dream to study in LUMS (and not study engineering there). So now, part of me wants to go to LUMS.
Chicks dig guys who go to LUMS (but they've banned kissing in the campus now).
In the meantime, I’m getting enrolled into CA classes to keep myself busy. Now let’s hope I don’t start taking interest in it, or I will never get to know what studying in a university feels like. Also, I need to prevent myself from turning pessimistic, as that won’t earn me any good fortune.
A little advice for the readers who are still in high school; make sure you have decided what you want to do with your life, or you’ll have to cope with frequent depression attacks like I am. Don’t run after the money. Choose the subjects you’re good at; a career you’re sure you’ll kick ass at.

Why not CA if I only have to pass a year? I firmly believe it will save me from frequent depression attacks.

Now some of my thoughts regarding the topic:
In Pakistan there is no concept of career counselling. Much of the resources and talented is thus drained since it is directed on the path where it does not yield the maximum benefits.What so ever little career counselling we get, is first via our parents – who are pre-decided to put in the only top 4 professions…the second source being our cousins and peers!
Anyways, if I were to decide my career – or recommend anyone…I would consider the personality, interests, and what is “the thing” that clicks a person…”the thing” that fascinates him – the most…Like are they Android phones or the criticism on “apple” items 😛
Jokes aside, you MUST NOT be disappointed with yourself! Numbers…marks …grades…and hell the time in which you did nothing is – in my opinion not a waste! Listen I know lot of my contacts, who sat at home for about 2 years after college…just coz they had no clue what to do with their life? they just felt no interest at all in any profession they think of…then after some years some how or the other they end up being damn good professionals!
Secondly, get a life and think about the situation this way…..
Atleast you end up being somewhere (where I was once :P) and you have this opportunity to dig inside your talent and skills, and look whether IS IT THE THING that excites YOU?? If yes…then all is well…but IF NO….then NO WORRIES….and the excitement should not be connected with money one profession promises! Thats not a good sign of “right excitement”!
Atleast you tried something – which people are so afraid and reluctant to try!!! So what you could not make it! Just dont loose HOPE!!!
To cut my speech short – GET RID OF YOUR DEPRESSION….do some workouts… See the situation with a clearer and fair approach (as i suggested above) …Believe in yourself…Hope for the Best!!!

The problem here in Pakistan (or all of the Asia for that matter) is that parents put too much pressure on the child regarding education; they will dump his opinion as if the child is a newborn and cannot make decisions on his own. I’m pretty sure that if initially I do well in CA, my dad won’t let me switch to engineering later on. What do I tell a person who thinks I can finish CA easily but can’t GET INTO an engineering university? Just because I failed NUST’s entrance this year, doesn’t mean I will fail again. And then there’s another problem. NUST is the only engineering university that revolves around my father’s head, when I can count more than 10 on my fingertips. And if he thinks I can’t get into any of them, I wonder what makes him think that I can ace CA without a difficulty.
I, personally, have never worried about money, but you can’t really change the mind of an Asian parent. If it really is all about money, I can earn 100K+ within 4 years without any degree or certification, but that is NOT MY PASSION. I don’t want to spend YEARS studying in a campus that’s smaller than Pervez Elahi’s house. I want to study in an institute where, besides academic activities, I can also participate in activities that can freshen my mind and boost up my confidence.
It’s very, very confusing to choose one career path as, well, you keep on thinking about the what ifs and lolwuts, man. It’s enough to make a man cry.

Awww…ok, yes we realize much much later after our high school how important the “scores” are. Well unfortunately they are. I won’t deny it. My college life sucked cos of my low scores but by the time I got the hang of all this studying and stuff. I actually went to a good university on merit basis. So my dearest dearest bro I am glad that you are not completely disheartened. I wish you all the best. I really do. Meanwhile you can always join the entertainment industry if CA is too difficult! (Bad joke) Lol. But yes you are quite intelligent MashAllah so I don’t have any reason to believe you’d reach your true potential one day. *Cheerio*

It is very important to choose the subjects you love, not just the places where you would like to study. Remember, the brick architecture will lose it’s charm once reality digs in.
